Exit Diversion & Camouflage Door Wraps for Memory Care Facilities

Exit-seeking behaviour is one of the most challenging and time-consuming realities in memory care. When a resident repeatedly tests an exit door, it creates safety risk, staff strain, and distress for the resident themselves. Exit diversion door wraps are a proven, non-restrictive way to address this — transforming a clinical-looking exit door into something that doesn’t register as a door at all.

How Exit Diversion Works

The principle is simple: a door that doesn’t look like a door is a door that doesn’t get tested. Full-coverage vinyl wraps printed with imagery such as bookshelves, china hutches, garden trellises, or stone walls replace the visual cue of “door” or "exit" with something familiar, non-triggering and non-threatening. For residents living with mid-to-late stage dementia, this visual substitution is often enough to redirect attention and reduce exit-seeking episodes.

Unlike locks, barriers, or alarmed doors — which can create agitation and do not address the underlying trigger — exit diversion works with the resident’s perception rather than against it.

Who Uses Exit Diversion Door Wraps

• Long-term care (LTC) homes managing elopement risk in secured memory care units

• Assisted living and retirement residences with dementia or Alzheimer’s residents

• Adult day programs with exit-seeking participants

• Hospital dementia units

• Any facility where a clinical-looking exit door is triggering wandering behaviour

Why Facilities Choose RB & Co.

We are a Canadian producer, not a distributor shipping from the US or Europe. That means shorter lead times, made-to-measure sizing, and direct communication from design to delivery. We understand Canadian LTC environments and the regulatory context Ontario facilities operate in.

We are also not a one-product company. If your facility needs reminiscence murals, med cart wraps, or hallway wayfinding alongside your exit diversion wraps, we can supply the full environment from a single source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the wraps work on double doors? Yes. We produce single and double door wraps. Send us your door dimensions and we will custom-produce a wrap to fit exactly.

Can we use a custom image? Yes. We can produce wraps from custom imagery with a design consultation. This is ideal for facilities wanting to match existing decor or incorporate Canadian-specific scenes.

What surface does the wrap apply to? The wrap requires a flat door surface. Raised panels or deep-set moldings need to be removed or filled before application. We provide installation guidance with every order.

Is it easy to remove? We offer both permanent and repositionable options. The repositionable version can be removed without damage to the door finish.

What about steam or moisture environments? For spa or bathroom-adjacent applications, edge-sealing at installation is recommended. Contact us to discuss your specific environment.
